Broken Crayon Muffins

Have on Hand:
Broken Crayons
Cupcake baking cups-- either foil or paper (if paper, use two at a time)
Muffin pan

Boredom Buster Description:  You know that large tub of crayons that's been growing year by year? Well, here's your chance to whittle it down in a fun way!

1. Get your kids to hunt through the crayons to find all the broken ones, the smaller the pieces the better.
2. Peel off the paper.
3. Collect a pile of broken pieces in the colors you like and place them into baking cups, breaking the pieces further if desired. Half-inch chunks seem to be a good size, but the main thing is for them to be roughly similar in size and not too big so they all melt in unison. Fill the cups halfway to two-thirds full.
4. Mom or Dad places a muffin pan with crayon-filled cups into oven at 250 degrees. Bake until just melted and then pull out to cool down. Note, if you bake too long the colors will all run together.
5. When the "muffins" are well-cooled, peel off baking cups.

Now you have a multi-colored, gigantic crayons to color with or keep as a decoration!

Boredom Buster Bio:  I'm a mom who writes for kids. My five-year-old daughter can jumprope backwards and hula-hoop like crazy. My nine-year-old son made a New Year's resolution this year to be "Awesome, awesomer, and even more awesome!"

Thank you, Jeanne Ryan, for this great idea!
