Boredom Buster Description:
Okay, I know I'm cheating here because this is more about a product than an idea. But our family found these MindWare coloring books to be fabulous for creative play on a rainy day. These beautiful patterns mimic mosaics, molecular structures and other fascinating designs.
Older kids will rediscover the joy of coloring in the lines and younger kids will be enthralled by their own gorgeous creations. Plus, you can buy these books online. MindWare adds new options all the time, so search "coloring book" on their website to view all their latest offerings at http://www.mindware.com/Home/HomePage.aspx
For a creative extension of this activity, set kids loose creating their own black and while line designs. Let them try using rulers, compasses or household objects for shapes. Or let them design freehand. They can also try using popular computer paint programs too. When they're done, they can trade their designs with a sibling or friend for coloring or they can complete their own amazing artwork with paints, markers, crayons or colored pencils.
